Virginia Hughes

Virginia “Jave” Hughes passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 in Wauwatosa, aged 79. She was born in Milwaukee on March 18, 1946 to parents John Hughes Jr. and Julianne (nee McCumber) Hughes. Virginia attended Milwaukee Downer High School and graduated from UW-Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree and spent much of her career working in Fine Arts sales. She met her husband, Peter, in the 70s in Door County, but it wasn’t until mid-90s when she needed help with her computer that she and Peter met again. They married on the cusp of the New Year on January 1, 1996 on her 40 acres of land in the snow, surprising all their friends with their wedding. Whether it be sailing, beekeeping, or gardening, she liked to spend her time outdoors in Door County, and she felt strongly about the ecological preservation of nature. When she wasn’t in Door County you could find her traveling.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband Peter Jacobs and stepchildren Nate and Adam. She is preceded in death by her parents.
