Virginia "Ginny" M. Hughes

Virginia M. “Ginny” Hughes, of Sullivan, passed away in her sleep Monday, June 22, 2026 at her residence at the age of 80. She was born June 22, 1946, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Edward and Isabel (nee Pischinger) Uihlein.

Ginny graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in 1964. After a brief stint in a local rock and roll band, she unplugged her Les Paul for good to start her family. She went back to school and earned a degree in accounting, launching her career with Stokley Foods. Although the name changed and offices moved multiple times, the company needed her skills for 26 years until her retirement. She never missed a big event in her grandchildren’s lives and was the center of family get togethers. Ginny was an avid reader, had a green thumb, and could be seen pushing her lawn mower on any given summer day. Winter days in recent years were spent enjoying the snowbird life with her siblings in Florida. She became quite the handy woman, spending endless hours customizing and beautifying her home. She was a longtime member of St. Mary Help of Christians in Sullivan.

We will miss Ginny’s gingerbread cookies and her loving presence in our lives.

She is survived by her children Scott (Ann) Hughes, David (Michelle) Hughes and Laura (Corey) Kirschbaum. Dear grandmother of Matthew, Hailey, Zachary, Will, Kinalya, Callie, Kiyumae, and Codakai. She is further survived by her sister Judy (Tom) Schmitz, brother Rick (Jan) Uihlein, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard at infancy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 11:30 until the 12:30 p.m. memorial service at St. Mary Help of Christians, W856 Hwy 18, Sullivan, WI 53178. Memorials in Ginny’s name are appreciated to the church.
