Terry L. Ashley, of Waukesha, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 79.

Terry was born on June 17, 1946, in Denver, Colorado, as the third child and second son of Bradley and Lillian (Younger) Ashley. His childhood was spent in the Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Topeka, Kansas areas. Terry developed an incredible work ethic early in life, delivering newspapers, working as a busboy and dishwasher at The Broadmoor Hotel, and holding numerous other jobs throughout his teenage years. Terry was on the wrestling team at Widefield High School from which he graduated in 1965. Following graduation, Terry joined the United States Army.

Terry served in the 720th Military Police Battalion and achieved the rank of Sergeant. During his tour of duty in Vietnam from October 1967 to September 1968, Terry was sent out on patrol and combat missions almost every day. Notably, he was at the U.S. Embassy in Saigon during the Tet Offensive in January 1968, where he played a crucial role in protecting the U.S. Embassy. Upon his return from Vietnam, Terry served as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Gordon, Georgia, ultimately being honorably discharged in April 1969.

Following his time in the Army, Terry focused on his education and became a master machinist. His excellence as a machinist led to a 30+ year career in machine tool sales with Kennametal, Inc. Terry founded the Product Application Support Team for Kennametal from the ground up and also served as the Product Manager of metal cutting inserts for several years. During his time as a Product Manager, Terry was granted a U.S. Patent for a cutting insert with universal identification. He later returned to sales, which allowed him to be closer to his family in Wisconsin. Terry concluded his career with The Walter Corporation as their head of Sales Training, where he led training seminars for hundreds of sales representatives.

A man of remarkable character, Terry was known for his sophistication, intelligence, and natural charm. He carried himself with quiet confidence, a sharp wit, and a warm sense of humor that could light up any room. A true jokester at heart, he always found joy in life’s moments and shared laughter generously with those around him.

Terry had a deep love for travel and culture. He delighted in exploring the world, most cherishing his trip to Europe with his wonderful wife, as well as trips to Japan, Korea, and Thailand, and several memorable trips to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

Terry found peace and inspiration in the mountains. A devoted sports enthusiast and loyal friend, he was as generous with his time and care as he was with his heart. In his own humble way, Terry was a philanthropist, always looking out for others; a value he shared and lived alongside his beloved wife.

Above all else, Terry loved his family. His devotion to them was unwavering, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Terry is survived by his devoted wife and confidant of 48 years, Robin Ashley (Helvey); his loving children, Dorene (Rick), Marrien (Marshall) Walker, and Richard (Sarah) Ashley,; cherished grandchildren, Krista, April, Kyle, Areanna, whom he lovingly helped raise, Lily, and Lincoln; and treasured great-grandchildren, Valerie, Maddie, Marshall, Brooklynn, Kaleb, Charlotte, and Ezra. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou (Jeff) Fuchsman; brother-in-law, Jim Bott; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, many dear friends, and his beloved cat, Bowie.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sherry Bott; and his brother, Garry Ashley.
