Russell E. Gatzow passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the age of 92 years. He was born on May 6, 1933 to Harold and Viola (nee: Kluge) Gatzow. On May 9, 1953 he married his beloved wife Betty Jean (Dinnauer) who preceded him in death on April 13, 2025. For 72 years they built a home filled with respect for family and hard work, alongside treasured pets.
Russ proudly served in the Wisconsin National Guard for 7 years. He had a successful career retiring from Wisconsin Electric Power Company after 40 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed working outdoors where he began as a lineman, then as a troubleshooter.
Committed to his family, and well respected by colleagues and friends, Russ was known for his outgoing personality and great sense of humor. When not working around the house or watching Green Bay Packers games, Russ could be found in his workshop. As an avid woodcarver of waterfowl, his works won awards from local and regional carving associations.
Russ will be sadly missed by his daughter Linda Gatzow, dear granddaughter Heidi (Adam) Jahnke, and two loving grandchildren Elora and Emberly Jahnke, who will carry on his legacy of love, hard work, and creativity. Russ is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other friends. In addition to his wife Betty, Russ was preceded in death by his son Donald Gatzow, and by his brother Roger.
Services will be private with internment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
