Robert J. Kubiak

Robert “Bob” J. Kubiak of Waukesha passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at age 80 years, at home in the company of his adult children and his devoted companion Cathy Szmanda.

He is survived by: son Charles “Chuck” (Karen) Kubiak and daughter Laura (John) Burke; grandchildren Colleen (Ethan) Garcia and Connor (Sarah) Kubiak; great-grandchildren Sunday and Bobbie Jean Garcia and Millie Kubiak. He is also survived by siblings Michael (Jill) Kubiak, Betty (Gary) Tricker, Nancy (Gene) Reamy, and Carol (Randy) Niemi, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife Elise Charlene Kubiak (nee Pittenger) on December 1, 2014; his brother Harry and his parents.

Bob was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on June 25, 1945, the son of Harry and Mildred (nee Buschmann). Bob had a long and successful career at the Falk Corporation in Milwaukee. He was an avid volunteer at many Waukesha organizations including The Waukesha Food Pantry, Suza’s House and Waukesha Civic Theater. He served for many years as a lifeguard at the Waukesha YMCA and was well-known for his athletic achievements, including cross-country ski racing, ultramarathons and unicycling. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waukesha and loved to travel.

A machinist by trade, there was nothing Bob was unable to build, improve or fix. He valued his family, loyalty, hard work, and perseverance. He overcame many significant health challenges. He was famous (infamous?) for practical jokes and knew where to find the best free cookies in Waukesha.

A funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11am at Corpus Christi Parish-St. Mary Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave. in Waukesha. A celebration of Bob’s life will follow the Mass at the Waukesha YMCA Gymnasium, 320 E. Broadway, Waukesha, WI 53186 from 1 until 4pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions of food, funds or time serving at the Waukesha Food Pantry.
