Paul S. Matheson

Paul S. Matheson, of Franklin, after nearly 9 months of a hard-fought battle post double lung transplant, embraced by his savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Joel (nee Kjornes), father of Bethany (John) Reinsch and Rebecca (Chris) Krause. Papa of Ellia Greenwald, Henry Krause, and Emet and Merritt Reinsch. Cherished brother of Laurie Strommen (Kevin Murtha) and Lynn (Terry) Blake. He is further survived by other nieces, nephews, other relatives and some spectacular friends.

He was born September 13th, 1955 to William “Bill” and Judy (nee Preuss) in Mineral Point, WI . An affinity for music, Paul took to the arts partaking in choirs with his notable tenor voice, playing French horn in the band and receiving the lead roles in many of the school plays. One memorable show playing the part of Tevya in “Fiddler on the Roof”. Athletically inclined, he was a lifetime pursuer of golf, active on the high school team and playing up until his lungs couldn’t keep up a few years ago. After attending Coe College, pursuing his dreams in Opera, and earning his bachelor's degree in the performing arts, he enlisted in the Air Force and completed training in Biloxi, MS and later being stationed in Germany. Paul was made aware of his father’s sudden passing and was honorably discharged from his service. He flew home with a heavy heart to take care of his mother and two sisters, later having the honor of walking his sister, Lynn, down the aisle.

He started his career working for Musicland/Sam Goody, rising through the ranks quickly, he managed stores across Milwaukee, Chicago, Madison and Portland, OR. Wanting to further his career and seeing the change in the music industry, Paul changed careers, earning his Financial Advisor license. He worked for Equable Securities for many years but spent most of his financial career with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

On December 26th, 1993 Paul married the love of his life, Joel Kjornes, and gained a daughter, Rebecca, and welcomed Bethany two years later. Paul and Joel spent nearly 33 years together, building their life enjoying music, food, golfing and spending time with their wonderful friends.

Paul lived out his faith, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone who would listen. If there was one more thing he could leave with us, it would be “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!”

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 2nd, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon at Waukesha Bible Church, S53W24079 Glendale Rd. Waukesha, WI 53189.

The family would like to thank the amazing team of nurses, Respiratory Therapists and support staff who cared for Paul as well as the many team of friends who came frequently to visit him.
