Mike was born to Fred J. and LaVerne C. (Sneller) Evert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the youngest of three sons. Mike attended MPS schools. He graduated from Juneau High School in 1961 and Marquette University in 1966.
Mike played all sports, but softball was his passion. He played for Copper Hearth and several other local teams well into his forties. He was an avid Brewer and Packer fan and enjoyed his children’s and grandchildren’s sports including ice hockey, field hockey, football, basketball and baseball. Mike liked deer hunting up north with friends, especially when his son could join him. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending time on Castle Rock Lake at the “Evert Lodge”.
Mike began his teaching career at John Muir Jr. High School in 1966 and continued there until 1979. He married Diane Luisier on July 2, 1966 in Lena, Wisconsin. They resided in Milwaukee, living just across the street from his childhood home. In 1976, they moved to Mukwonago with their two children Michelle and Michael, where they built their home and resided for 46 years. In 1979, Mike decided on a career change. He worked for Tremco as a sales consultant for 36 years until retiring at the age of 71½. Mike was well respected and gained the confidence of his clients resulting in many sales awards of which he was most proud.
Mike and Diane were able to travel with friends to several countries and took family vacations to various parts of the U.S. He loved those trips the best. Unfortunately, Mike’s health began to decline shortly after his retirement and he was no longer able to do many of the things he enjoyed. But all in all, Mike kept a positive outlook and life was still good.
In 2021, Mike and Diane downsized and moved into a condo in Waukesha. Their new neighbors were so welcoming and on warm sunny days Mike delighted in sitting outside his garage and visiting with anyone passing by, especially with their fur babies as he had a great love for dogs. Above all, Mike was a “family first” man. Nothing in life took precedence over his family.
In January of this year, he encountered serious health issues and spent time in the hospital, in rehab at Lake Country Health Services and in March he took up residence at Three Pillars. There he quickly made friends with staff and was content and happy with all the attention he received. Each day he anxiously awaited visits from his beloved wife. Our family is so grateful for all the care and concern for him in his last months of life.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Diane, of nearly 60 years; their daughter Michelle Evert (Brad) Cook, son Michael (Annamaria) Evert; and four grandchildren, Marina and Samuel Evert and Benjamin and Sam Cook. He is further survived by sisters-in-law Carol Evert, Marianne Evert and Marjorie Hockstad and one brother-in-law Richard (Deborah) Luisier, nieces Christine, Nancy, Cheri, Andrea, Wendy, Jolene and Stephanie and nephews Jeremy, Brandon and Daniel and by great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his mother and father in-law Leo and Louise Luisier, his two brothers, F. John Evert Jr. and Darrell Evert and brother-in-law John Hockstad.
