Marcella "Marcy" A. Hoeft

June 13, 1932 — August 11, 2023

Waukesha

Marcella A. Hoeft, nee Hanrahan, daughter of Cyril and Armella (Becker), passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the age of 91.  Marcy was the beloved mother of: Mary (Kent) Smith; the late Michael (Edie) Hoeft; James (Kathy) Hoeft; Kathleen (Jeffrey) Hightaian; and Suzanne (Dave) Millsaps.  She was the proud grandmother of Michelle (the late Sam) Agnew, Daniel, Kaylee (Michiel) Bakker, Jessica, Robert, Joshua (Verenice), Andrew, Kelly and Alexander and the beloved great grandmother of Mason, Hannah, Lily, Aaron, Archie, and Ari.  She was pre-deceased by her dear husband of 63 years, Harold.

Marcy was born in Chenequa and spent her childhood in Hartland and Stone Bank.  She and Harold raised their family in a home Harold built in Waukesha.  Marcy loved children and was a passionate believer in the importance of education.  She taught in elementary schools in Stone Bank, Waukesha and Brookfield for 36 years.  In retirement, she trained seniors to use computers in a lifelong learning program at WCTI.  She loved to dress up as the “Cat in the Hat” for children at the Lawrence School and for seniors at New Perspective Senior Living.

Marcy was also an avid genealogist who researched the family trees of both herself and her husband well before such information became available on-line.  Her research took her to churches and cemeteries in Germany and Ireland.  Based on that research, she wrote and self-published four books:  We Came from Alsace: The Story of the Gutschenritters (1986); From the Hills of Monaleen: The Story of the Hanrahans (1988); The Ouddorp Breens (2006), and The Hoefts of Hanover (2006).

The family would appreciate donations in her name to Hebron Housing Services (for Juno House), hebronhouse.org or a charity of your choosing.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 AM with the celebration of life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Zion Lutheran Church, N557 Main Street, Ashippun, Father David Verhasselt as celebrant.
