Joan Marie Vetta (née Wolff) passed away peacefully the morning of Thursday, April 16, 2026 at her residence at the age of 92. She was born in Milwaukee on September 24, 1933, the daughter of Edward and Adeline (née Mielke) Wolff. She was a graduate of North Division High School, class of 1951. Following high school Joan spent one year at vocational school before becoming an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). Caring for other people is something she always did and continued to do even in her last days. As an LPN she worked in Milwaukee at Milwaukee General Hospital, Waukesha Memorial Hospital, and in private care and home nursing.
She married her beloved husband of 55 years, Joseph, on October 29, 1960 at St. Joseph Church in Waukesha, and started their family together. Together they operated Vetta’s Ho-Made Sausages, and Joe made the best sausages in town. Family was very important to her and spending time with them she cherished. She most enjoyed her time with her grandchildren teaching Jenny, Nick and Austin how to play poker, something they will undoubtedly pass on to her great-grandchildren, as she would have wanted. In the time she had to herself she would be found reading or playing crossword puzzles, and when she wanted to get out you could find her bowling or at the casino with Joe. Her and her witty sense of humor will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children Teresa (Ray) Freund of Appleton, WI, Michael (Bobbie) Vetta of Sussex, WI and Julie (Joe) Schonasky of Sussex, WI; grandchildren, Jenny (Bryce) Denton, Nicholas Vetta and Austin (Maddie) Vetta; great-grandchildren, Nealia, Blake and Riley; brother-in-law, John (Judy) Vetta and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Ed Wolff; brothers-in-law, Mike (Pam) Vetta and Guido (Marion) Vetta, and parents.
A special thank you to all the caregivers at Riverview Village Senior Living in Menomonee Falls for all they did for Mom in her last years.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 South Grand Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186 from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
