Janet Alice Hext (Secor), 84, of Waukesha passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI. She was born at home on the farm in Sumner, WI on November 29, 1941 to the late Charles and Edith Secor (Sill).
After moving to the Rice Lake farm in 1944, Janet went to Arrendale School from first to eighth grade. Janet graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1959 where she lettered in Marching Band playing the coronet. She was active in 4H and FHA all through her school years and received the Key from 4H. She received a scholarship to UW Stout and returned to finish her Associates in Social Work at UW Waukesha in the 1970’s.
Janet married Bill in 1960. They settled in Waukesha where their two daughters, Stephanie and Lynda were born. She was very active in her daughters’ activities such as Girl Scouts and sports.
Over the years, Janet worked at Ellen’s and JC Penny’s. She spent 30 years in food service at RTE, GE, and Waukesha County Court House where she made many lifelong friends.
Janet had an adventurous spirit. Motorcycling, snowmobiling, bicycling, horseback riding, sailing, and traveling solo were things she loved to do. Later in life Janet and her close friend Ken participated in modified tractor pulls and street rod events. She just loved to ride in Ken’s bright red car.
Janet is survived by her siblings Eleanor and David; brother-in-law, Jerry; daughters, Stephanie (William) and Lynda; grandchildren, Elisabeth (Matt), Michael (Kathleen) and Jessica; great grandchildren, Ilene, Nolyn, Lorelai, Keelan, River and Riley, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Edith; siblings, Charles Jr. and Charlotte; brother-in-law, Donald; close friend, Ken; son-in-law, Allen; and her daughters’ father William.
Visitation will be held at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 South Grand Avenue Waukesha, WI 53186, on Friday April 24, 2026 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Service at 4:00pm.
Burial and memorial service will be held at a later date at Pioneer Rest Cemetery in Sumner, WI.
