James Lawrence Rouiller, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Milwaukee on January 16, 1935, to Leona (nee: Milewski) Rouiller and raised with his father, Alexander Rouiller. On October 19, 1963, he married Luella Madonna (nee: Luster) Rouiller, and together they raised three children.
James was a gentle, creative soul who enjoyed working with his hands, learning new skills, and creating beautiful things for his home and family. His many hobbies included woodworking, restoring antiques, photography, stained glass, clock repair, and gardening. His children have fond memories of time spent learning with James in his workshop. He enjoyed listening to classical music and jazz, and playing golf, baseball, and bowling in his younger days. But his favorite way to relax was fishing and hunting in northern Wisconsin and on the Mississippi River with his very large extended family. James cherished the strong bond he had with his uncles who were more like brothers to him. He faithfully followed the Milwaukee Brewers and was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, claiming that he probably saw every game they ever played.
He was proud to serve for four years in the Air Force in northern Italy, which ignited a lifelong love of travel. He worked for AT&T for over 30 years, moving the family from Ohio to Illinois, Indiana, and finally back to Wisconsin. He made lasting friendships everywhere he lived, and would strike up a conversation with anyone, cracking jokes whenever he could. James was a lifelong Catholic, actively serving first at St. Monica’s Church in East Peoria, Il, and a member of St John Neumann Catholic Church, now Corpus Christi Parish. There he volunteered for St.Vincent De Paul, serving communion at Avalon, working on buildings and grounds, and helping at fundraisers, among many other things.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Madonna Rouiller, and their children, Rebecca (Scott Church) Rouiller, Rachel (Kevin Armstrong) Rouiller, Stephen (Angela Haut) Rouiller, his dear grandchildren, Mia Lawrence, Grace Garavan, and Sophia Garavan. He is further survived by his brother, Jeffrey (Loretta) Rouiller, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Sandra Winter and Sharon McIntaggart.
Visitation and funeral Mass will be held at a later date in the spring.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped James, especially Dr. Daniel Cheng for over 30 years of care, as well as the doctors and caregivers at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, the Pro Health home hospice care team, and the St. John Neumann community.
