Eugene F. Szopinski

Eugene “Gene” Szopinski, age 78, died on Thursday, May 21, 2026, peacefully at home. Gene was born on August 17, 1947 in Milwaukee to Eugene and Doris Szopinski.

Gene graduated from Boys Tech High School and served an apprenticeship in the Tool and Die Industry. Most of his working career was as an employee of Stanek Tool in New Berlin, Wisconsin.

During his boys’ elementary and high school years he enjoyed being a hockey dad and coach. He loved teaching the game and the importance of teamwork.

Gene enjoyed maintaining his well-manicured law. Many days you could find him on his garden tractor mowing his yard with care.

Much to the chagrin of Packer’s fans Gene was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and spent many Sundays cheering for his team.

He had a gift for being able to fix almost anything around the house and did many DIY home remodeling projects over the 50 years of owning his home. Gene was also able to share what he knew with his sons, helping with many of their remodeling and maintenance projects for their homes.

Eugene is survived by his wife Diane of 55 years. Loving father of Kurt, Chad, and the late Bryan Szopinski; sisters-in-law, Donna (Ron) and Dee; brother, Jerome along with nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Doris, and mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Ann Sharping.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 South Grand Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. followed by a brief service. A private burial will be held for family and close loved ones.
