Edward “Ed” W. Lingo, age 70, died on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at his home surrounded by the stories and love of his family. He was born on January 21,1955 on Staten Island, New York to Edgar and Lorraine (Atkinson) Lingo. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School and New Dorp High School on Staten Island. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Veterans Day of 1975, and was introduced to the midwest during basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes. He proudly served aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as an aviation electronics technician. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to the midwest and spent his entire career with GE Healthcare, where he met his wife Liz. When he was having tests done during his cancer treatment, he liked to tell technicians that he worked on the equipment they were using on him.
Ed loved biking and enjoyed long rides on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail several times a week. He also could be found kayaking on local rivers and lakes, sometimes in the wooden kayak he built himself. He took pride in his home garden. When he retired from GE, he discovered pickleball and played until he was no longer able to. He loved to introduce people to the game and tell stories about the antics of fellow players at his park and rec group. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport, not so much the competitiveness. When these physical activities were no longer possible, Ed took up acrylic painting and working on old mechanical chime clocks.
Ed will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 34 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Lingo, their dear daughter, Julia Lingo and son-in-law Jackson Hillmann. He is further survived by his sister Holly Lingo; brother James Christiansen; brothers-in-law: John Grahor, Joe (Joan) Grahor, Lou (Jen) Grahor; nieces & nephews: Heather, Melissa, Mallory, Alex, Laura, Marie, Tom, Mikey, Paul, and Matthew; other relatives and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ariel Nelson and her staff at the Froedtert Cancer Center for the excellent care Ed received over the past five years, and Cailin from Horizon Hospice for her compassionate care at home in Ed’s final weeks.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Lorraine Lingo and his father and mother-in-law Louis and Maria Grahor.
