Dorothy Lowry

May 16, 1915 — February 9, 2007

Dorothy A. Lowry, 91, passed away on Friday, February 9 at home in the care of her loving family. She was born on May 16, 1915 near Pitchin, Ohio on the Knott family farm to Leo and Martha (Knott) Anderson. On December 27, 1944 she married Andrew M. Lowry, and spent the past 62 years in a deeply loving, supportive and committed marriage. Dorothy was a remarkably dedicated individual in sharing her faith, talents and abilities with others in a very special way. Her family and service to God were the most important parts of her life. She was the proud mother of Tom, John, and Janice to whom she provided steadfast love and support throughout her life. She has been honored for her work in organizing Presbyterian Women's groups and keeping them alive and formally recognized as a church leader by the Presbyterian Women in the Milwaukee Presbytery. She was also a teacher and entrepreneur. A great connector of people, she was instrumental in the formation of an exchange between the Presbyterian Church in India and the United States. An annual exchange of students and church leaders has occurred between the United States and India for the past 12 years as a direct result of her foresight and desire to connect individuals. This month a delegation of 40 U.S. representatives went to India to participate in the Education and Church exchanges. She is survived by her husband Andrew, son Tom (wife Janet) and daughter Janice (husband Tom), granddaughter Kate (Jef) Fox and grandson Peter (Sarah) Lowry. She was preceded in death by her son John. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 24 at 2pm at Brookfield Presbyterian Church,1485 Brookfield Road 786-8777. There will be time for visiting following the service. In lieu of flowers please direct memorials to Heifer International, In Memory of: Dorothy Lowry, P.O.
