Dolores Ann Buchan of Waukesha passed away peacefully at Waukesha Memorial Hospital the evening of July 30th at the age of 93. She was born in Sussex on March 8, 1931, to parents Clarence and Gertrude (nee Buske) Chatfield. She met and married her husband Jerold James “Butch” Buchan, Sr. and together they had their only child Jerold James “Jake” Buchan, Jr.
Dolores was an infinitely immaculate homemaker, and a doting, loving wife, mother, and grandparent. Affectionately called, “The Cook” by her husband, she peeled his grapes, laid out the clothes he’d wear for the day, and sat him down in the kitchen to cut his hair when it got unruly. Beyond her dedication to the ones she loved she was widely admired for her intelligence and depth of knowledge on a breadth of subjects. When not demonstrating her culinary mastery of an egg she could be found diligently referring to an array of almanacs, atlases, and encyclopedias that she would often consult for clarity on topics such as the finer points of the Dutch West India Companies claims in the Americas - then bounce to the underlying follies that lead to the untimely dissolve of Merle Haggard's third marriage, etc. - and so on to other themes that perpetually captivated her acutely apt mind.
She is survived by her loving grandchildren, Blake (Cindy) Buchan and Bif Buchan; step-grandchildren, Samuel (Jill) Hotz, Paul (Jessica) Hotz, and Kelly (Jason) Cleveland; great grandchildren, Emily, Leah, and Claire Buchan, Lindsay (Luke) and Nick Cleveland, Rainin, and Kolten Hotz, and Sebastian Hotz; and her daughter-in-law Marilyn Buchan. Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, Jerold James “Butch” Buchan, Sr; son, Jerold James “Jake” Buchan, Jr.; siblings, Ronnie and Bruce Chatfield; and her parents.
