Marilyn J. Gale

November 12, 1932 — June 25, 2019

Marilyn J. Gale of Waukesha passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the age of 86. She was born in Milwaukee on November 12, 1932 the daughter of Alfred and Edith (nee Clow) Fluegel. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband and soulmate, Stuart C. Gale on July 14, 1956; he preceded her in death on October 16, 2013. Marilyn graduated from Nathan Hale High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from UW-Milwaukee where she was in the Alpha Delta Sigma sorority. She was proud to continue her education and earn her master’s degree in Reading and Special Education from Cardinal Stritch University. Marilyn taught for more than 25 years, first in Brown Deer and Madeira, OH but spent most of her career working for Milwaukee Public Schools. Following retirement from teaching, Stuart and Marilyn traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad.

Marilyn was an avid reader, loved gardening, was a huge Green Bay Packer fan and proud ticket holder. She had a special interest in following her grandchildren in all types of activity from horseback riding, volleyball, to Wisconsin Badgers and robotics, to University of Houston’s choir and marching band, to more choir and decathlon, to music DJ’ing. She always wanted to know about their interests and how they were doing. Marilyn was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Waukesha where she served in the United Methodist Women.

Marilyn had a strong interest in organizations supporting education for women belonging to the AAUW (American Association of University Women). She was also a member of the P.E.O. International Sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization), MARTA (Milwaukee Area Retired Teacher’s Association) and the WREA (Wisconsin Retired Educator’s Association). Throughout her life she found joy being an active volunteer in numerous community organizations and church groups.

Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family and she delighted in being with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched over her 86 years.

Loving mother of Lynn (Kevin) Snowden of Friendswood, Texas, Douglas (Patricia) Gale of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Kathy Gale (Jim Durnil) of Waukesha. Proud grandmother of David (fiancée Natsumi) Snowden and Jonathan Snowden, Jacob and Thomas Durnil, Emily Gale, Maj. Sean (Claire) Ryan and Capt. Matthew J. (Kelsey) Ryan and great-grandmother of Leila and Sophie. Marilyn is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and soulmate of 57 years, Stuart, she was preceded in death by her brother Richard Fluegel.

Private burial was held at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 with visitation from 9:30AM until time of the 11:00AM memorial service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha.
