Elwyn served as a pastor in Nebraska, Illinois and Wisconsin. His unwavering faith in Christ guided his life. He passionately advocated for the less fortunate, making a tremendous difference in many lives. The mercy and compassion he showed were an example to all those around him.

Growing up on the family farm in Forreston, IL, Elwyn learned the value of hard work. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to repair plumbing leaks, fix a car, or assist with a landscaping project.

Elwyn had a lifelong love of learning. His sermons were known for their basis on an understanding of the Bible in its original languages and applying that knowledge to the practical problems of modern life. He was raised in the Baileyville Baptist Church, graduated from Forreston High School in 1959, graduated from Wheaton College in 1963, attended Fuller Seminary and completed his B.D. degree in theology at the North American Baptist Seminary in 1966. He later returned to Fuller Seminary and completed his Doctor of Ministry degree.

The beauty of God's creation brought peace and joy as Elwyn hiked in the mountains and canoed down rivers. He loved spending time with family and friends exploring the natural world.

Elwyn will be missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly and by all those whose lives he touched.
