Dr. Ella Milham

Dr. Mary Ella Milham, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, and New Berlin, Wisconsin, died at her Fredericton home Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the age of 88. She was born on March 22, 1922 in Waukesha, the only child of James C. and Ocallia (nee Pardee) Milham. She descended from five Waukesha County families, who settled here before 1850. Following her graduation from Waukesha High School, she graduated from Carroll College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received her Masters and Ph.D., and University of Michigan Linguistics Institute. From 1961 until the 1990’s she spent much of her time pursuing Latin research in Europe, publishing many of her works there. Beginning in 1968, Mary worked as a professor at the University of New Brunswick, becoming Professor Emeritus in 1988. She received many prestigious honors throughout her career, which included an award from the Wisconsin State Historical Society for her writings on local history. She had a long membership with and service to the New Berlin and Waukesha County Historical Societies from which she received several awards for authoring several publications. She is survived by many friends and colleagues. Visitation will be Thursday December 16, 2010 from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home 1110 S.
