Doris M. Ducey (nee Hardy) of Spring Lake, Michigan passed away peacefully in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the age of 86. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 15, 1932 the daughter of Harry and Helen Hardy. On July 13, 1951 she married her husband, Walter J. Ducey Sr. in Chicago; he preceded her in death on August 1, 1998. Doris earned her master’s degree in teaching from the University of Illinois and taught first grade and special education for Chicago Public Schools, retiring in 1993. She served as the treasurer of Wetland Watch of Spring Lake an organization she was very devoted to. A lifelong advocate for healthy living, she traveled the world, completed the Chicago Marathon and was a longtime member of the Audubon Society and C3 of Grand Haven. She also enjoyed going to the symphony, museums and the Grand Haven YMCA. An unusually good listener, she saw the value and goodness in all human beings and touched the lives of so many through her selfless, gentle nature, always putting others before herself. Doris was simply the best.

Doris will be sadly missed by her loving son, Richard (Barbara) Ducey Sr., of Waukesha, WI, her cherished grandchildren, Jolie Ducey (Theo Wilkerson), Richard Ducey Jr., Jeffrey Ducey and Kathryn Ducey and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Noah, Josiah and Jadaliz. She is further survived by her sister Patricia Mawst of Spring Lake, MI, along with other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Walter J. Ducey Jr. and her long-time companion Gerard Harring.

A Celebration of Life is planned for May 2019 in Spring Lake, with details to be announced at a later date. Private interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Easterseals Southeast Wisconsin-Waukesha Adult Day Center/LEO Program (serves individuals with physical, social or cognitive disabilities), 201 Wisconsin Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186.
