Clayton W Erickson

April 25, 1931 — August 26, 2019

Clayton Welch Erickson of Waukesha died on Monday, August 26, 2019 at his home at the age of 88. He was born in Milwaukee on April 25, 1931 the son of Oscar and Mildred (nee Apker) Erickson. He was a 1949 graduate of Antigo High School. Clayton proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1949 until 1952. Two years later he married his beloved wife, Joanne (Weyenberg) Erickson on June 5, 1954. Clayton managed the State Patrol Office before becoming the superintendent of the State Office Building on Barstow Street, retiring in 1988. He was a proud Boy Scouts leader in the 1970’s and was honored to see many of the Boy Scouts become Eagle Scouts. Clayton was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a very active 40-year member of the New Berlin Historical Society and 59-year member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather anyone could ask for and he will be forever missed.

He was the loving and devoted husband for 65 years of Joanne Erickson of Waukesha; proud father of Anna Doll of Waukesha and Paul Clay (Christy) Erickson of Marshfield; cherished grandfather of Emily Fincher and Matthew Erickson both of Marshfield and dear great-grandfather of Jeffery and Dylan Fincher. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his treasured grandson, Michael Doll and his brothers and sisters, Evelyn Burow, Clarence Miller, John Miller, Eugene Erickson and Vivian Gile.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 10:30AM until the funeral Mass at 12:00 noon at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186. Burial with full military honors will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Wisconsin Chapter, 1120 James Drive, Suite A, Hartland, WI 53029.
