Warren Lubnow

Warren H. Lubnow, of Waukesha, died Monday, October 25, 2010 at Waukesha Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 87.  He was born on August 2, 1923 in Waukesha to Edward and May (Affolter) Lubnow.  During his youth he sold magazines in his neighborhood and sold newspapers downtown Waukesha and at the train depot. He worked for  Elger’s Meat Market and The James Store.  He was a 1941 graduate of Waukesha High School, where he participated in track and swimming.  He attended UW-Madison, until he was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1943.  He served with the 102nd Cavalry and was among the first to land in Normandy, France on Omaha Beach on D-Day, and then fought in the battles of Ardennes and Rhineland.  Following the war, he stayed in the service in the Army of Occupation in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, where he met Bob Hope.   On February 7, 1948 he married Shirley Kuehn at St. Matthias Episcopal Church.  For forty years he worked as an accountant, alongside his brothers Arthur and Donald and nephew Steven.  He was for a time a third generation employee at Waukesha Engine.  He was a member of the Waukesha Elks Lodge #400, Soat-Vergenz VFW Post #721, D.J. Martin American Legion Post #8, Past Master of the Waukesha Lodge #37 Free and Accepted Masons and a longtime member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church.  He enjoyed puttering around the house and yard, bowling, golfing and was very proud of his hole in one on the 18th at Kettle Moraine.  He will be sadly missed by his daughter Janet (Roger) Danielsen of Waukesha, grandson Gregory Danielsen, brother Ralph (Marion) Lubnow of Menomonee Falls, sisters-in-law Elsa Lubnow of Waukesha and Jayne Richert. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley on May 24, 2000 and brothers Art and Don. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 5 from 12 pm until the 2:00 pm funeral Mass at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 111 E.
