Ward Evenson

Ward H. Evenson, DDS, of Waukesha, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 88.  He was born on October 26, 1920 in Waukesha, the son of Nels and Edna (Zickert) Evenson.  After graduating form Waukesha High School in 1938, he graduated from Carroll College in 1941 and Marquette Dental School in 1944.  On July 10, 1948, Ward was united in marriage to Sue Doyle at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Waukesha.  Ward proudly served his country in the Naval Air Force Dental Corps during WWII.  He was stationed at Alameda Navel Hospital where he received his training for hospital dentistry, which he brought back to Waukesha Memorial Hospital to begin their first dental staff.  For many years to follow, Ward had his own dental practice in Waukesha, and was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association.  He was a part of the original group of dentists who brought fluoridated water to Waukesha.  Active in the community, Ward  was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Tripoli Shriner, and a member of Noon Kiwanis.  He was also a past president of the PTA of Hatfield, a member Merrill Hills Country Club, and a 61-year member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church.  He also enjoyed being a member of the Army and Navy Club of Washington D.C.  Ward will be sadly missed by his wife, Sue of Waukesha; three children:  Nancy (Clarkson) Lindley of Minneopolis, MN, Lea (Rick) Sund of Seattle, WA, and Ward H. “Mike” (Kim) Evenson II of LaCrosse; five grandchildren:  Carter Lindley, Hali Sund, Pat Sund, Ward H. “Tripp” Evenson III and Jenna Evenson; and great-grandson, Ward H. “Sunny” Evenson IV.  He is preceded in death by his son, John, and his parents.  Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral Mass at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 111 E. Main St., Waukesha.  Fr. David Simmons will preside.  A luncheon will follow at Merrill Hills Country Club, W270 S3425 Merrill Hills Road, Waukesha.  Burial with full military honors will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Prairie Home Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Ward’s memory may be made to the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra, P.O.
