Patricia Ann Devriend

May 21, 1944 — March 27, 2015

Patricia (Pat) Ann DeVriend, of Waukesha, died on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Seasons Hospice surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born in 1944 in Sheboygan, WI to Adrian and Lydia (nee Heisler) DeVriend and would have celebrated her 71st birthday on May 21.
Pat graduated Phillips High School in Phillips, WI, class on 1962. She was a proud graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee in 1965. She served as a registered nurse for 46 years, working at Deaconess Hospital (Milwaukee), Bellin Hospital (Green Bay), and at the Visiting Nurses Association (Milwaukee). She was one of the founding nurses at Froedtert Medical Center in Milwaukee where she practiced until her retirement in 2011. She was always sharing stories of her colleagues, many of whom she forged lasting friendships with, and the many patients she lovingly cared for.
Pat is survived by her son, Kevin (Katherine) Dahl, and her granddaughter, Isolde “Izzy”. Pat loved to travel to Penn State to visit Kevin while he completed his graduate degree in Chemistry. She was so proud of Kevin when he completed his PhD in 2004; all his friends in State College and Alexandria, VA remember her as a kind, warm, albeit talkative, mother.
In 2011 Pat was so excited to welcome her granddaughter Izzy into the world, and was such a caring and doting grandmother. She spent many weeks with Kevin, Kate and Izzy at their home in Alexandria, celebrating holidays, birthdays, and watching her granddaughter grow. She thoroughly enjoyed taking Izzy to the park and school, and introducing her to new things to eat.
She enjoyed travelling; taking Kevin on road-trips across the United States as well as visiting friends in Europe. Some of Kevin’s fondest memories of Pat was of his childhood, when she would take him and his cousins on camping trips during their summer break. In her spare time, she was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, making many items for herself, her family, and her beloved Izzy. Pat loved animals of all types, and was widely recognized as the greatest dog-walker in history. She gave freely of her time and energy as a volunteer for the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) of Waukesha.
In addition to her son and granddaughter, she leaves behind her brother Richard (Carol) DeVriend, sisters Sally DeVriend, Joan (Lloyd) Beauchamp, Judith (David) Berard, and Elizabeth (John) Halgrimson, her uncle William DeVriend and aunt Joanne Rosenthal; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, as well as her two adoring cats, Fuman and Blondie.
Her parents and husband, Steven Dahl preceded her in death.
The family would like to thank those who kept in touch with Pat after her retirement; as well as the medical staff who provided such good care at the end of her life.
