Nancy Harris Glassner

February 1, 1938 — September 23, 2014

Nancy H. Glassner, of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 76. She was born in Bessmer Township in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on February 1, 1938, the daughter of Edward and Mildred (nee Miller) Brown. She worked as a school teacher for thirty four and a half years, mostly near her home in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. She liked to tell people that she spent her early childhood in a lumber camp, moved to the town of Bergland, MI so she and her siblings could go to school, eventually becoming the first person to go to high school in her father's family, and the first to go to college in her mother's family. She earned a bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University and a master's degree in special education.

She eventually realized a dream when she moved to Henderson, Nevada for several years. She enjoyed spending time there with her brother Terry, sister-in-law Wendy and niece Megan - and having lots of visitors! She then moved to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin to be closer to family when her husband, Joe, developed Alzheimer's disease.

Nancy loved her cats, crocheting and playing card games.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Mary (David) Drewes of Wales, WI, John (Jennifer) Harris of Ankeny, IA and Gloria (Paul) Micklos of Greenville, WI. She was the dear grandmother of Jillian and Nate Drewes, Megan, Emma and Olivia Harris and Edward Micklos. She is further survived by her sisters, Mary (Robert) Burgess, Helen Davidson and Judy (Glenn) Milligan, her brother Joe (Carol) Brown and sister-in-law Wendy Brown Rudder, along with her cat Frankie, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Glassner, her brother Terry Brown, her brother-in-law Ronald Davidson and her parents, Mildred and Edward Brown.

A gathering to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 1:00PM at Oak Hill Terrace, 1805 Kensington Drive, Waukesha, WI 53188.

Honoring Nancy’s wishes to do one last act of teaching, her body was donated to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Body Donation Program. Her ashes will be scattered in the Nevada desert.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to a charity benefitting education or cats.
