Nancy Auchter

July 16, 1925 — February 17, 2009

Nancy H. Auchter, of Waukesha, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 83.  She was born on July 16, 1925 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Adolf and Bertie (Klingler) Boefer.  Nancy received her elementary and high school education in St. Louis, then was studying for a nursing degree in Bolder, CO until her marriage to Harry Auchter on August 28, 1954.  She later received a medical assistant degree from WCTC where she also took many other courses, as she had many interests.  She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Waukesha where she was an elder and a deacon.  Nancy helped start the Meals on Wheels program in Waukesha, and continued to be an active volunteer for many years.  She also enjoyed volunteering at Retzer Nature Center as a naturalist.  She was a member of the Women’s Club at Carroll College.  An avid bird watcher, she belonged to the Benjamin F. Goss Bird Club in Waukesha.  She loved hiking, gardening, sewing, and cooking, as well as spending time up north at their cottage on Pickeral Lake. She also loved to travel with her husband.  Nancy had a great empathy for all living things and enjoyed doing things for others.  She will be greatly missed by many people.  Nancy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harry of Waukesha; two children:  Ruth (James) Daniel of Broken Arrow, OK, and Mark (Cassie Kummrow) Auchter of the town of Delafield; two grandchildren:  Christopher Daniel of Portland, OR and Jonathan Daniel of Broken Arrow, OK; sisters-in-law, Sally Boefer of Ballwin, MO and Evelyn Havener of Timonium, MD; brother-in-law, William Nelden of Bloomington, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Boefer; her sister, Eleanor Nelden; and her parents.   A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 810 N. East Ave., Waukesha.  Fellowship will follow the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to Retzer Nature Center, S14 W28167 Madison Street, Waukesha, WI 53188 or to the Caring Place for Meals on Wheels, 810 N.
