Lorna Schaefer

April 15, 1928 — July 14, 2016

Lorna Schaefer, a longtime Waukesha resident was born to Eternal Life surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at her home at Avalon Square at age 88. She was born in the township of Byron, Fond du Lac County on April 15, 1928 the daughter of Phillip and Gertrude (nee Daniels) Koenigs. Lorna was a 1945 graduate of Waukesha High School. Lorna was a strong and witty woman who proudly raised seven children. She was the co-founder and past President of V&L Tool Inc. in Waukesha for many years. A faithful woman, she was a member of St. William Catholic Church for more than 40 years. Lorna was an avid bowler and was proud to have bowled a 299 game. She was inducted into the Waukesha Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame, won the State 600 Club tournament and served as President of the Waukesha Bowling Association. Lorna loved to travel in retirement. Most of all she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She is loved and will be sadly missed by her sons Paul (Shirley) Schaefer of Decatur, IL, Gerald (Barbara) Schaefer of Waukesha, Timothy (Karen) Schaefer of Waukesha, Rick (Chris) Schaefer of Waukesha and Randall (Brenda) Schaefer of Delafield, her daughter Barbara (Tom) Lepkowski of Plover and her daughter-in-law Patty Schaefer of Waukesha. She was the dear grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters, Dorothy Coakley of California, Eva (John) Libecki of Waukesha and Trudy Waterman of California, her sister-in-law Janice Schaefer of North Prairie along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vyron, her son, Donald Schaefer, her brothers, Joseph Koenigs, Leo Koenigs and Br. George Koenigs OSB, and her sisters, Agnes Laudolff and Frances Bernau.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Avalon Square and Kindred Hospice for their kind and gentle care provided to Lorna and their family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. followed by the 11:30 a.m. funeral Mass all to be held at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha, WI 53188. Father Curt Frederick will preside. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorna’s name are appreciated to St. William Catholic Church.
