Leon L. Meyer

January 14, 1931 — January 2, 2018

Leon L. Meyer of Waukesha passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 following a short illness at the age of 86. He was born in Twin Brooks, South Dakota on January 14, 1931 the son of Pete and Margaret (nee Lage) Meyer. On February 11, 1956 he married his beloved wife Shirley; she preceded him in death on July 13, 2003. Leon worked for 41 years as an inspector at Briggs & Stratton. He met Shirley over 60 years ago at the roller skating rink. Skating became a passion for both of them. Leon was also a H.A.M. radio operator (WK9VHX) and talked to other operators all over the world. After the kids left home, Leon and Shirley became very busy camper trailer travelers covering most of the U.S. They loved camping so much they had a travel home at River Bend Resorts in Watertown and enjoyed many summers with their children and grandchildren in tow. Leon loved to play horseshoes and every Sunday Morning at River Bend he could be found competing among the best! Leon was also a member of many bowling leagues in Waukesha and had bowled up until his 81st birthday. One other love of his life was Model Railroading. It was a passion he held onto until the end.

He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted daughter, Jan (Bill) Pease of Waukesha, his son Warren (Sue) Meyer of Wilmot, stepson Kevin (Sherry) Gierach of Mesa, Arizona and his son-in-law Dave Jones of Waukesha. He was the proud grandfather of Emily (Dave) Pease-Clem, Bill (Becky) Pease, Sadie Villegas (Miguel Marin), Matt Teschner, Jake Meyer, Chrissy (Brandon) Knight, Shelly (Scott) Weston, John Jones, Marc Jones, Jenny Jones and Alison (Curtis) Wilson and great-grandfather of Hayden, Hudson, Colton, Diego León, Isabella, Hunter, Gavin, Layla, Dominick, Amya, Jaden, Hailey, Jessica, Jose, Jovanna and Ashley. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife Shirley and his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Nancy Jones and his brother Eugene Meyer.
