John R. Pugh

April 1, 1926 — July 29, 2015

John R. Pugh, of Waukesha, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at age 89 at the Silverado Memory Care Community in Brookfield. He was born on April 1, 1926 the only child of John and Mary (nee Rees) Pugh. He was proud of his family, his Welsh heritage, the Waukesha High School Class of 1944 and of being a 6th Division United States Marine serving in Okinawa. John graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Business and subsequently the UW School of Banking. He served as President of the accounting fraternity. On September 9, 1950 he married his wife of 65 years Helen McKerrow at First Presbyterian Church where they have been longtime members. He was selected “Man of the Year” in 1960 by the Waukesha Junior Chamber of Commerce and was one of five Junior Chamber Outstanding Young Men in Wisconsin the same year. John was elected to the Land O’ Lakes Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978, organized Kaske’s Speedsters Baseball Team, was former President of the Waukesha YMCA and a member of the United Way, Kiwanis, the Welsh St. David’s Society, the Wisconsin Masonic Lodge in Dousman, and was a founding director on the Board of The Caring Place. He worked as a full-time banker, becoming Senior Vice President and Cashier at Waukesha State Bank. John enjoyed working as a part-time farmer and gardener and he provided produce for the family, friends and the Waukesha Food Pantry in addition to tending to his apple trees and being a weekend wood-chopper with a crew of a dozen called SSO Stumps.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Helen of Waukesha and their children, Penny (Dave Channel) Goodyear of Waukesha, Patty (Ron) Dallmann of Waukesha, Jack (Cindy) Pugh of Chanhassen, MN and Jim “Beans” (Jen) Pugh of Waukesha. He was the dear grandfather of Becky (Bill) Pease, Andy (Carrie) Goodyear, Jennie (Dr. Nick Draper) Dallmann, Laura (Kevin) Ulrich, John Pugh, Megan Pugh and Harper Pugh and great-grandfather of Colton Pease, Gavin and Evelyn Goodyear, and baby Ulrich. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law Isabel (Warren) Brown and Florence (John) Glass, along with other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Martin Kern, the Silverado Memory Care Community in Brookfield, and Seasons Hospice for the compassionate care provided for John.
