John E. Boie

John Elwyn Boie of Waukesha passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, December 23, 2016, at the age of 88. He was born on June 13, 1928, the son of dairy farmers Harry and Myrtle (nee Edwardson) Boie. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1946, and then proudly served in the United States Army in Korea from 1946 until 1948. He was a 1952 graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison and subsequently earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. On August 16, 1953, he married Mary Anne Lukas. A career educator, John began his teaching career in Mayville, Wisconsin. John and Mary moved to Waukesha in 1957. He worked at Brookfield Central High School for 31 years, teaching social studies from 1957 to 1961, serving as assistant principal from 1961 to 1964, and then as principal from 1964 until his retirement in 1988. John served as President of both the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He was a longtime member of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. John loved hunting, carpentry, birdwatching, music, traveling and reading. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 63 years Mary of Waukesha and their children, Amy (Craig) Thompson of Hartland, David (Crystal) Boie of Milton, Brenda (Edward III) Trier of River Hills, and Eric (Jennifer Lisowe) Boie of Rochester, MN. He was the proud grandfather of Laura (Michael) Reese, Anneliese (Nick) Welsh, Jonathan (Christine) Thompson, Michael Thompson, Elizabeth (Jordan) Schulz, Scott Boie, John Boie, Taylor Anderson, Carly Anderson, and Brooks, Brady, Madeline and Brett Boie, and great-grandfather of Eva, Brooklyn and Louisa Schulz, Aaron and Collin Reese, and Craig Truman Thompson. He is further survived by his sister June (the late Jack) Larson, his brother Dean (Joyce) Boie along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Janet (Jim) Anderson and his brother Norval.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 12:00 noon funeral service with full military honors in the Chapel of Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Rd., Brookfield, WI 53045. Burial will be held Sunday, January 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Milton Junction Cemetery. Please meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Brookfield Central Scholarship Program, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or Telling the Truth.
