James Teschendorf

July 13, 1936 — April 11, 2011

James W. Teschendorf, of Waukesha, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 74.  He was born on July 13, 1936 in Milwaukee, the son of Arno and Sylvia (nee Baumbach) Teschendorf.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a 1954 graduate of Nathan Hale High School and a 1962 graduate of UW-Milwaukee, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree.  For the next 28 years he taught Social Studies at Milwaukee Technical High School, retiring in 1991.  He was a longtime member of D.J. Martin American Legion Post 8 in Waukesha and St. Matthias Episcopal Church.  He was known as a passionate self-taught master gunsmith.  He will always be remembered for his generosity and grand storytelling, especially of “The old neighborhood” and his time in the Army.  He will be sadly missed by his wife Nancy (nee Westhofen), of Waukesha, whom he married on October 5, 1963, along with their children Steven (Christine) Teschendorf of Waukesha, Matthew (Amie) Teschendorf of Woodland Park, CO and Martha (Nathan) Waerzeggers of McFarland.  Dear grandfather “Papa” of Molly, Nancy and twins Sophia and Alexis.  He is further survived by his brothers Arno (Nancy) Teschendorf of Rhinelander and Thomas (Mary Jane) Teschendorf of Brookfield; brother-in-law Richard Westhofen of North Carolina; nieces Sue, Barb, Lynn, Joanie, Diane, Patty and Susie; nephews Rick and Chuck; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister Yvonne (late Robert) Fredrich.  Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15 from 4:00 pm until the 7:00 pm Funeral Service at St. Matthias Episcopal Church 111 E. Main St. in Waukesha (please use the entrance on Pleasant Street). Fr. David Simmons will be presiding.  Memorials may be made to D.J. Martin American Legion Post 8, P.O. Box 111 Waukesha, WI  53187.
