Duffie Bruning

Duffie Bruning passed away at Avalon Square on August 17, 2012. Duffie was born in Downers Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Anna and D.D. Hall. She married John Bruning in 1943, after meeting at Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO. She taught elementary school in Illinois briefly after WWII. They lived successively in Downers Grove, Arlington Heights, Prospect Heights and Lisle, Illinois, retiring to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. After the death of her husband, she lived in New Berlin until 2009, when she moved to Avalon Square in Waukesha. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution while living in Illinois and she enjoyed bowling and playing bridge. Duffie was a faithful member of her church in all her communities, including First Congregational Church (UCC) in Waukesha. She particularly enjoyed being part of Plymouth Circle and the BS group at First Church, as well as the Women's Fellowship group at Avalon Square.  She is survived by her son, John Bruning and his partner, Marge Anderson, and by her younger son, Dave, and daughter-in-law, Kathy; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Acker, Jack Bruning and John Bruning; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Victoria.  Visitation will be held Sunday, September 16, at 12 noon, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 pm at First Congregational Church, 100 E. Broadway, Waukesha. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date at Avalon Square. She will be interred at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana, Missouri. Memorials may be made in Duffie's memory to the Capital Fund at First Congregational Church or to Avalon Square, 222 Park Place, Waukesha.
