Clayton Phelps

September 20, 1920 — March 16, 2010

Clayton A. Phelps, age 89 of Mukwonago, formerly of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the home of his daughter with his family at his side.  He was born on September 20, 1920 in Utica, New York, the son of Lansing and Ella (Wiswall) Phelps.  He proudly served his country during WWII.  Clayton married the late Eileen Marley on August 22, 1943 in Chadwicks, N.Y.  They were married for 52 years before her death in 1995.  Clayton worked as an electrician all of his life and was most proud of his positions at Syracuse University in New York and Master Chief Electrician at Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee. In his retirement, he was an active member of American Legion Post #375 of Mukwonago.  Clayton’s favorite place, especially after retirement, was “up north at the cabin” in Pelican Lake, WI with his family.  He loved the laughter, basking in the victory of his many cribbage games at the kitchen table, and “watching the lake go by.”  Clayton is survived by his children: Judith (Frank) Geiger of Waukesha, Nancy (Dale) Fleenor of Madison, Kenneth (Joanne) Phelps of Mukwonago, and Thomas (Karen) Phelps of Brookfield; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Clayton died the night before St. Patrick’s Day…meeting his wife, who he called “Irish”, in heaven.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 4:00 PM until the 7:00 PM funeral service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI.  Burial will be held privately at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.  Memorials may be made to Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care, Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy, Madison, WI 53711.
