Carl Gygax

April 18, 1941 — January 29, 2012

Carl H. Gygax, 70, of Pewaukee, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at his Pewaukee Lake home.  Born April 18, 1941, of  Samuel F. and Hazel I. (nee Dingeldine) Gygax, Carl was raised on a farm and graduated in 1960 from Waukesha South High School. On April 1, 1967, he married Betty Ann Reuteler at Christ Lutheran Church in Pewaukee. For 30 years, Carl worked for the Waukesha County Highway Department, retiring in October 1998.  He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He always loved tinkering with tractors, cars and especially motorcycles,  and one time even built a motorcycle out of bushel baskets. He enjoyed parties, polkas and grilling chicken. His friend Vern Meisner and his band played at both his wedding and his 25th anniversary celebrations as well as Betty’s 50th birthday party. But granddaughter Olivia was the “spark plug” of his life.  He will be sadly missed by his wife and their son Rodney Carl (Jennifer) Gygax of the town of Delafield and their daughter Olivia.  He is further survived by brothers and sisters, Larry (Lee Baker) Gygax of Waukesha, Howard (Chris) Gygax of Muskego, Bonnie (Gary) McDermott of Wonewoc, and Phyllis Petri of New Berlin along with  nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.    Visitation will be on Thursday, February 2, 2012, from 1 until the 5 PM funeral service at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 Whiterock Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186.  Reverend Lawrence Gates will preside.  Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 3, at 10 AM at Prairie Home Cemetery.  Please meet at the cemetery office.  If desired, memorials are appreciated to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund (address above).
