Arthur "Art" William Kohlhaas

October 27, 1919 — May 20, 2014

Arthur “Art” W. Kohlhaas, of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Three Pillars Masonic Center for Health and Rehab at the age of 94. He was born on his parent’s farm in Genesee on October 27, 1919 the son of Fred and Persis (nee Jones) Kohlhaas. He was a 1937 graduate of Waukesha High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army earning a Bronze Star during WWII as an armed force radio operator in the 6th Armored Division. In his younger years, Art worked for Brookfield Farms, before owning his own garage in Genesee Depot. He also worked as a mechanic at JCPenney for many years retiring in 1984. In 1982 he married Doris Mae (nee Vilmur) Schomer; she preceded him in death on December 10, 2011. Art had been a longtime member of First Congregational Church of Genesee UCC and was a member of the Genesee Depot VFW Post #5270. He was a true mechanic and loved fixing things. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family and will always be remembered as a loving dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Karen (Dominic) Frinzi of Palmyra, Wendy Kohlhaas of Waukesha, Bryan Kohlhaas of Delafield, Penny (Mike) Fosholdt of Palmyra and Heidi (Tom) Schoknecht of Delafield, and their mother, Monica Knuth of Waukesha, his step-children, Robert (Betty) Schomer of Oconomowoc, Diane (Michael) Mann of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy (Dick) Moon of Waukesha, Mary (James) Mitchell of Waukesha and Susan (Brian) Lenard of Waukesha. He was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters Rose Weis of Mitchell, SD and Kathryn Jonas of Watertown along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife Doris and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Marie Shaver, Fern Foat, his step-daughter and son-in-law Carol and William Long and two granddaughters.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice and to the staff and nurses at Three Pillars for the care provided to Art.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 9:30AM until the time of the 11:00AM funeral service at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha. Reverend Joe Medina will preside. Burial with full military honors will follow at Genesee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, PO Box 636, Port Washington, WI 53074 or to the Froedtert Hospital Eye Institute, 925 N 87th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53226.
